All it took was an Em chord…
I had a great chat the other day with my Danish friend, Anna, who’s building Sleeve, this very platform, changing the way musicians connect with their biggest supporters. She asked me how I got started with music, and honestly, it all began with an E-minor chord. That single moment of discovery set off a lifelong journey—one that’s taken me through writing, playing, and producing for some of the greatest artists.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have made music for Pat Benatar (Hit Me With Your Best Shot), The Doobie Brothers (The Doctor), Paul Carrack (Don't Shed a Tear), Rita Coolidge, Donna Summer, and Lawrence Gowan, among others, and of course, for myself. Each of these collaborations has been a reminder of why I fell in love with music in the first place: the connection, the storytelling, and the magic that happens when a song resonates with someone.
In our conversation, we talked about the ever-changing landscape of the music industry and what it really means to build a sustainable career as an artist today. It’s an exciting time to be an artist, and I’m looking forward to sharing more snippets from our conversation soon.

Hey Eddie. It's really cool to see you on Sleeve. I loved hearing you talk about how your music journey began with that Em. It’s inspiring to hear someone like you share that origin story. It reminds me how sometimes the simplest moments spark something genuinely amazing. I mean, we wouldn't have Hit Me With Your Best Shot had it not been for that Em!?
Appreciate the insights and connecting to this community, it's fun to hear what unlocks songs, not to mention careers. Thanks for sharing Eddie!
Also... I heard that Ed Norton nailed his portrayal of Pete Seeger in the new Bob Dylan movie. He supposedly captured Pete's musical genius but also his warmth and support for everyone he met, including Dylan. It’s a powerful reminder of how music is truly about connection and community.
Ed Norton is great as Pete Seeger! And that movie really captures what Greenwich Village was like in those days. Well worth seeing
My Mother took me to see Elvis in March of 1957. I was 7.
It was there when one of my earliest recollections was my desire to be in stage. 7 years later I saw The Beatles. Game over. It was going to be music as a life goal.
